E-mail: [email protected] Defects following excision of lesions in and around the oral commissure extending on either lip are not infrequent. A majority of them are malignant. Various local flaps have been described to correct these defects, but sometimes they may not be feasible. However, the advantage of single-stage reconstruction can still be achieved by using an island forehead flap based on the anterior branch of the superficial temporal artery. This is a versatile flap with a reliable blood supply. It is relatively less popular as it involves time-consuming dissection. Aims: We have modified the island forehead flap based on the anterior branch of the superficial temporal artery by designing the flap on th frontoparietal region based on the terminal course of the anterior branch of the superficial temporal artery. Materials and Methods: This flap was used in five cases of perioral defects involving both the upper and lower lips including the angle of the mouth. Conclusions: Small to moderate dimension full thickness perioral defects can thus be reconstructed effectively with this modified flap in a single stage. The functional and aesthetic results are gratifying with minimal donor site morbidity.

Extended RetroauricularTemporal Flap with Conchal Cartilage for Alar or Columellar Reconstruction
Abstract Background: The retroauricular-temporal or Washio flap has been introduced for reconstruction of partial nose and cheek defects, and has many advantages. We decided to evaluate the extended use of this technique in order to repair full thickness nasal defects. Methods: Superficial temporal and retroauricular arteries are identified with Doppler flowmetry. Selection points A, B, C and ...
متن کاملNEW APPLICATION FOR THE BITEMPORAL (VISOR) FLAP IN RECONSTRUCTION OF ADVANCED LOWER LIP CARCINOMA
Background: Lip carcinoma is a common cancer with a good prognosis and when patients refer early in the course of disease the results of treatment are acceptable. Surgical procedures for reconstruction of lip defects are the use of remaining lip tissue, tissue from the opposite lip, adjacent cheek tissue, distant flaps and microvascular free flaps. The bitemporal (visor) flap is a regional...
متن کاملSubmental Artery Island Flap in Reconstruction of Harde Plate after wide Surgical Resection of Veruccous Carcinoma. Two case reports
Introduction: Reconstruction of intraoral soft tissue defects is important in restoring function and esthetic. In large defects, there will be demand for regional pedicle flaps or free flaps. Hard palate separates nasal and oral cavities. Due to the small surface area between flap and remaining palate after surgical resections, optimal blood supply of the flaps for hard palate reconstructions ...

BACKGROUND Reconstruction of complex soft tissue defects of the thumb, with exposure of tendons, joints or bones, has always been a difficult task. We evaluated the functional and esthetic outcomes of 1st dorsal metacarpal artery island flap in reconstruction of post-traumatic soft tissue defects of the thumb. METHODS Between January 2012 and June 2014, fifteen patients with co...

BACKGROUND Reconstruction of upper extremity deformities continues to be a challenge to the reconstructive surgeon. Various loco regional, distant and free flaps are available for reconstruction. However, each has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Of the commonly performed local flaps, radial artery forearm flap, and the posterior interosseus artery flap stand out prominently.
